University Hospitals Parma Medical Center engaged Perspectus to renovate and expand its Surgical Services Department. The project features 12 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy rooms, and 30 pre/post care stations. Care stations are designed universally to serve pre-op, recovery and post-anesthesia care, and promote flexibility to accommodate the ebb and flow of patients throughout the day.
An increasing demand for outpatient surgery prompted the expansion of pre- and post-operative areas for these procedures. The patient experience is enhanced, with greater privacy for surgery patients and a more spacious waiting room for family members. Expanded, state-of-the-art operating room suites support the growth of several service lines at UH Parma Medical Center, including orthopedic, vascular and thoracic, bariatric, ophthalmology and urology.
The project began with an addition to the building and proceeded into three phases of alterations throughout a two-year period to avoid disruption to surgery operations. The phasing strategy was carefully developed to maintain at least 8 functioning operating rooms for the duration of the project, minimize shutdowns of services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gasses), and allow for separate routing of patients, surgical staff, sterile supply deliveries, and construction activities.
