The Ninth U.S. Coast Guard District is responsible for all Coast Guard operations throughout the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway and parts of the surrounding states. Personnel based here are critical to the Ninth District mission.
Perspectus designed a facility to replace the Coast Guard’s antiquated World War II-era building and house central operations, crew berthing, a small boat station and an electronics support facility. The plan for this new building required uninterrupted Coast Guard operations, maximized functionality, sustainability and continuity of design.
The building was designed to blend with the architecture of nearby waterfront landmarks such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center and Cleveland First Energy Stadium. Its façade emulates a ship’s bow and evokes the iconic symbolism of the maritime industry. The result is a sleek and modern building incorporating functionality, design aesthetic and maritime tradition.
