The two-story Zelma George Family Shelter, which is primarily for homeless women with children, was designed to create functional spaces that allow staff to better serve the needs of the vulnerable population. Perspectus created a safe, supportive environment for residents that promotes recovery and progression towards residential stability.
A total of 36 family living units are arranged around the perimeter of the building, each with natural light and private bathrooms. The arrangement of rooms allowed for controlled, centralized monitoring by staff, but also for each living unit to have direct access to the large, playful community `living room’. All group areas are intended to promote social interaction and positive experience outcomes.
The shelter also provides dedicated housing exclusively for adult female human trafficking victims, making it among the first in the region to do so.
