The Mansfield Arts Center, designed by Don Hisaka and built in 1970, is itself a piece of art. As Design Architect for an addition, Perspectus conceptualized an approach that respects and enhances the existing building, inspiring and supporting those who gather there to learn, teach and create. The new building’s massing is informed by the datums and vocabulary of the original structure.
The ceramic and glass arts studio is an extension of the existing education studios, with a large open space, loose work tables, and support spaces. Floor-to-ceiling glass puts the process of making art on display, offering views from outside to the kilns inside. The addition provides storage and receiving spaces for the main building and helps accommodate expanded programming. Architect of Record: The Seckel Group Architects.
