Meet our 2021 Summer Interns

June 9, 2021 // Announcements

We are excited to introduce you to Madisen Mandell, Joel Dalzell and John Whitticar.

Madisen Mandell has joined the team as a Marketing Intern. She is a fourth-year student at Kent State University and will be graduating in December with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in Marketing.

Madisen says she was drawn to the field because “at its very core, marketing is helping people tell their story. I love being in this industry because of the opportunities to help and interact with so many different people. No two days are the same! Marketing is fast paced and full of learning opportunities and I am excited to see where this journey in marketing leads me.”

Although this is her first foray into the AEC industry, Madisen comes to us with several valuable marketing experiences already under her belt. In addition to her previous internship experience with a digital advertising firm in the Toledo area, Madisen has been an active part of LaunchNET Kent State since she was a freshman. This program advises students, alumni, staff, and faculty who want to bring their business ideas and inventions to life. Madisen used her skills to help run the office and advertise the services it provides by assisting with two successful events per semester, creating and implementing a social media calendar for content distribution, designing social media content, and providing feedback to support entrepreneurs.

She will be assisting our Marketing Team with everything from Social Media management to collateral development and market research. Outside of work and school, Madisen enjoys reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with friends and family. She can be reached at mmandell@perspectus.com.

Joel Dalzell has joined us as an architectural intern this summer. He just graduated from Kent State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a minor in Marketing. He and his project partner were recently awarded the 2021 Integrated Design Studio Award for Best Integrated Structural Design. Joel is a CAED Director’s Award Winner and on the Dean’s List.

Joel says that when he was looking for a career path, “architecture seemed like a great consolidation of all my interests.” He believes that “this single profession provides a range of opportunities from the nitty-gritty technical to endless creativity. My education and previous experience have driven me to understand and reach for all the opportunities this larger-than-life profession has to offer.”

Joel looks forward to his internship here at Perspectus to build upon his prior experience, primarily within healthcare design, while expanding his knowledge and understanding of other design sectors. “The immediate future will take me back to Kent State in the fall for a Master of Architecture degree. Beyond that… TBD, but sky’s the limit!”

A native of Brunswick, Ohio, Joel enjoys staying busy through outdoor activities, time with family and friends, and the pursuit of great meals. He can be reached at jdalzell@perspectus.com.

Also joining us as an architectural intern this summer is John Whitticar. A Dean’s list student at Kent State University, John will start his fourth year in the fall pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He is active in the KSU Construction Management Student Organization (CMSO), which is a nationally recognized organization that provides opportunities and networking for students from various disciplines interested in pursuing a career in the built environment.

John says he has “grown up with construction and design on both sides of my family, which has influenced me to pursue architecture as my passion. My goal is to understand the qualities and values that are necessary to design exciting and intuitive spaces. My time in school has only made me more curious about what type of architecture I might pursue, but I am especially interested in what Perspectus can teach me about historical restoration and healthcare design.” John has previous experience working for a national construction group, but he says he is “looking forward to gaining first-hand experience working for a professional architecture firm.”

John is a resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and when he’s not working or doing schoolwork, he enjoys spending time with his friends, hiking, and working on his golf game. He can be reached at jwhittacar@perspectus.com.
