We are happy to introduce to you to our summer 2022 interns (pictured left to right) Gabriel Firestone, Sombre Carleton and Dominic Holiday. With us since the beginning of June, these three individuals are already gaining broad design experience and contributing meaningfully to our project teams.
Gabriel Firestone joins the Perspectus team as an architectural intern. He is Master of Architecture degree candidate at Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED), where he received a 2022 CAED Award of Excellence.
Gabriel comes to the field of architecture after 10 years of professional practice as a scenic designer for theater, opera, and other live entertainment events, working as an associate in New York City's most notable design offices. He has over twenty Broadway credits, among other projects including first-tier national and international tours, special events, and exhibitions. His work has been featured on Netflix, Good Morning America, and the Tony Awards.
This summer, Gabriel looks forward to experiencing our different areas of specialty —specifically the healthcare and historical design studios — and gaining mentorship as he continues his professional transition. He is excited for opportunities to continue expanding his understanding of the industry and business practices before returning to school in the fall.
Outside of work and school, Gabriel enjoys working on home renovations, trying new recipes, and spending quality time with his wife and dog.
Sombre Carleton graduated this past May from Kent State University with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design and a minor in Marketing. She will be continuing for an additional year at Kent State for her Master’s in Healthcare Design – a passion which piqued her interest in Perspectus.
This summer will be her first time working at an architecture firm. She is eager to learn more about senior living communities and how to operate within a professional team. Sombre is especially excited to work at Perspectus to gain a network of people she can learn from in multiple areas.
Her main reason for pursuing interior design is because it combines psychology and aesthetics to positively impact people’s wellbeing. She looks forward to applying this thinking into real world design through her experience at Perspectus this summer. Apart from interior design, Sombre enjoys thrift shopping, sewing, and hanging out with friends.
Dominic Holiday joined us as an architectural intern this summer. In the fall, he will begin his 4th year at Kent State University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with minors in Construction Management and Business. He and his project partners recently received an honorable mention for Arch Out Loud’s 2021 HOME competition. Dominic has also participated in A+D Museum’s “One Object at a Time” exhibition and is on the Dean’s List.
Dominic says that when he was looking for a career path, “architecture seemed like the perfect career to be creative, but also connect with all types of people. I am passionate about using architecture as an opportunity to serve my community by promoting wellness and equity through new design ideas and challenges.” Dominic has previous experience working for an urban design practice, but says he is especially excited about what Perspectus can teach him about historical architecture and healthcare design.
Dominic is a resident of Green, Ohio. When he’s not working or doing schoolwork, he enjoys spending time with his friends, running, and painting.
