Cleveland Clinic Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute

Perspectus met the challenge defined by Cleveland Clinic’s Robert J. Tomsich Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute (PLMI) to design a three-story building with flexible laboratory space on the main campus to accommodate future growth and technology advancements.

The new building was designed from the lab bench outward and focused on the efficient work flow of the technologists. This concept focused on developing an ideal module for the lab benches and its application to other design considerations. The cantilevered office block defines the east entry to the Cleveland Clinic campus along Carnegie Ave.

PLMI provides the highest quality laboratory testing nationally, and Cleveland Clinic Laboratories were created to provide clinical reference lab services. The reference services provided focused on four key laboratories: microbiology, molecular pathology, special chemistry and immunopathology. The design team was assisted by laboratory planning experts from Leo A Daly.
