25 Years of Perspectus

Twenty-five years ago, Perspectus was founded on a simple idea: design has the power to improve how people live, work, learn, and heal. Since 2001, the firm has grown from 2-person office in Shaker Square to a 48-person collaborative studio in downtown Cleveland and Detroit, Michigan. Along the way, Perspectus remained committed to creating exceptional experiences for clients across a diverse range of project types, including healthcare, campus and cultural, senior living, civic and government, commercial, historic architecture, science and technology, clubs and hospitality, and workplace environments.

Perspectus has evolved over the past 25 years by expanding its team, becoming thought leaders, and continuing to build lasting relationships that have shaped both the firm and the communities it serves. From early acute care renovations to nationally recognized healthcare projects, strategic mergers, and the move to downtown Cleveland, each milestone has played a role in defining who Perspectus is today. The recent integration of Project & Design Management (P&DM) and the addition of a Detroit office marks another step forward, expanding Perspectus’ presence and strengthening its capacity to serve clients across the region.

What remains consistent is the firm’s commitment to creating exceptional experiences focused on design, innovation, and problem solving. Every project starts with listening, understanding, and designing environments that support real people and real needs. This mindset has guided the firm through growth, industry changes, and new opportunities, while continuing to build on the strong foundation established by its founders.

As the firm’s capabilities expanded, Perspectus developed a multidisciplinary team that brings together programming, architectural design, interior design, and master planning. This collaborative approach allows projects to be considered holistically and solved in thoughtful, practical ways.

Leadership has also evolved alongside the firm’s growth to help guide Perspectus forward while remaining grounded in the values that have long defined the firm. Perspectus continues to build on that strong foundation under the leadership of Sal Rini and Mike Lipowski, supporting clients across a diverse range of project types.
